Instagram has officially rolled out a built-in teleprompter tool within the main app, allowing creators to read scripts directly from their screen while recording Reels. The feature, which was previously available only in Instagram’s standalone video editing app Edits, is now being integrated into the primary camera interface .
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced the update on his Instagram Channel, stating that the tool is designed to help creators stay on message without requiring multiple takes .
“We brought the teleprompter feature from Edits into the main Instagram camera. You can now add a script that scrolls while you record. Helpful if you want to stay on message without doing a ton of takes,” Mosseri said .
How the teleprompter works
The teleprompter tool is accessible directly from the Reels camera interface. Once activated, creators can paste or type their script into the text box. During recording, the script scrolls automatically on the screen, positioned in a way that allows the creator to maintain eye contact with the camera .
Users can customise the teleprompter experience with two key controls:
- Font size adjustment – Increase or decrease text size for better readability
- Scroll speed control – Adjust how quickly the script moves to match speaking pace
The text is displayed near the front-facing camera lens, mimicking the experience of a professional studio teleprompter where the speaker reads directly into the camera. This small but meaningful change makes videos feel more natural and improves the flow and confidence of delivery .
Who benefits from the feature
The teleprompter tool is particularly valuable for creators who produce talking-head content, including:
- Educational content creators and teachers
- Product reviewers and tech influencers
- Business coaches and trainers
- News and explainer video producers
- Small business owners and marketing professionals
Previously, creators had to memorise their scripts, use third-party teleprompter apps, or keep printed notes off-camera—often resulting in awkward glances away from the lens. The new feature reduces the need for multiple retakes and helps maintain natural eye contact with the audience .
Availability and rollout
The teleprompter feature was first introduced in Instagram’s Edits video editing app in June 2025, where it has been available alongside other features like overlays and editing tools . Bringing it to the main app makes the tool accessible to a much wider audience.
According to reports, the teleprompter feature is currently rolling out globally. Some users may see it earlier than others, as the feature is being released in phases. Creators who do not see it yet are advised to update their Instagram app to the latest version .
Part of Instagram’s creator-focused strategy
The teleprompter addition is the latest in a series of tools Instagram has introduced to attract and retain professional content creators. Recent moves include new AI creator labels in May 2026 and an algorithm update in April 2026 designed to benefit original creators .
Together, these changes reflect Instagram’s consistent strategy of reducing friction for video content makers and giving them professional-grade tools directly within the platform they already use daily, rather than requiring them to learn and manage a separate workflow in a secondary application .
Third-party teleprompter alternatives
Several third-party teleprompter applications already exist for creators who need more advanced functionality. Apps like Beast Floating Teleprompter offer AI voice tracking that matches scroll speed to the speaker’s natural rhythm, as well as floating window overlays that work across multiple apps including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube . Other options like PromptFy provide AI script generation, 4K recording, and Apple Watch integration for hands-free control .
However, having a native teleprompter within Instagram itself removes friction for casual creators who don’t want to switch between multiple apps or invest in third-party solutions.
Looking ahead
As short-form video continues to dominate social media engagement, tools that simplify content creation are becoming increasingly valuable. Instagram’s native teleprompter lowers the barrier to entry for creators who may have been hesitant to produce talking-head content due to memorisation challenges.
The feature is now rolling out globally. Users can check for availability by updating their Instagram app and looking for the teleprompter icon in the Reels camera interface .
